The thoracic spine is the part of the spine to which the ribs attach. Because of these ribs, the thoracic spine is relatively stable, and because of this support, rarely wears out. Usually, the parts of the spine that get the most wear and tear are the neck, between the weight of the head and the relatively stiff thoracic spine, and the lumbar spine, between thoracic region and the pelvis.
However, though less commonly occurring, the thoracic discs can degenerate, and this process can cause pain.
