Spondylolysis: Surgical Decompression

For those cases with a condition called spondylolysis, which refers to a non-union of the back part of the spine (pars interarticularis), there may be additional decompression required as compared to a spinal bone without this non-union. The chronic inflammation associated with the ununited bone leads to additional tissue being present near the exiting nerve root. This area will need to be decompressed as well with surgical treatment.
